Abstract

This study of thirty eight unmarried mothers known to the Children's Agency of Louisville, Kentucky is an attempt to find out what happens to these girls after the agency has terminated its contact with them. The study is not concerned with the problem of unmarried motherhood as such, but rather with the individual girl who gives birth to a child out of wedlock. The study, further, is not concerned with causal factors, the why and wherefore but rather with those conditions which brought the girl to a social agency when she finds that either she cannot help herself or her family and friends cannot cope with the problem.
