Letter from Editor-in-Chief Taylor Riley

Thank you for reading the 2021-2022 issue of Cardinal Compositions. I am delighted by the insightful submissions we received from undergraduate students and teachers in composition, creative writing, and art. The editors and I are pleased to finally unveil this year’s issue, which was carefully designed in the spring semester of 2022 at the University of Louisville. The cover art is called, “Enough,” and was submitted by Erica Lewis, who also created “Grass Study,” featured in our Art and Creative Writing section. This year’s issue is divided into two sections: Theme Courses and Traditional Writing Courses. We have carefully chosen fantastic instructor assignment sheets and student examples, showcasing the vastness and exquisiteness of the University of Louisville’s English Department. Theme courses are created with the subject matter in mind and could range from news literacy to community topics, and much more. Traditional writing courses follow a Writing About Writing approach, which is common in composition departments. We round out the issue with two poems written by two authors from a themed composition course. I’m so proud of this issue, and we hope you may draw some inspiration for projects in composition, creative writing, and art.
