Aims & Scope
Aims
Confluence is dedicated to publishing high-quality student work that engages with music as a field of scholarly, creative, pedagogical, and applied inquiry. The journal supports a broad and inclusive understanding of research, recognizing multiple ways of generating and communicating knowledge in music.
Scope
The journal welcomes submissions from undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent alumni (within the past three years), whose work engages with one or more areas represented within the University of Louisville School of Music’s Department of Academic and Professional Studies, including:
• Music Education
• Music Therapy
• Music Theory
• Musicology
• Creative Studies (e.g., composition, performance-based inquiry)
Submissions may take a variety of forms, including:
• Research articles and analytical essays
• Theoretical or historical studies
• Original compositions and creative works
• Audio, video, or multimedia projects
• Pedagogical materials (e.g., lesson or curriculum plans)
• Practice-based or clinical studies
• Interdisciplinary projects
• Reflective or practitioner-oriented writing
Eligibility and Submission Context
Submissions must originate from work developed in an academic or mentored context (e.g., coursework, independent study, research projects, or creative activity).
All submissions must include:
• A brief statement describing the work and its relevance to music-related inquiry
• A faculty endorsement confirming the quality and readiness of the submission
Intended Audience
The journal serves students, faculty, researchers, and practitioners interested in contemporary approaches to music scholarship, pedagogy, and creative practice.
